First of all, I have to tell you the finished bag pictures from this sewing tutorial don’t do this project justice. This tutorial includes a free downloadable printable pattern, and printable instructions with the photos (very nice if you don’t have a computer in your sewing area). You’d pay $10-$15 for this pattern in a quilt store! I’m tempted to do sew-along just to take better pics of the end product. Jcaroline, this is a great sewing freebie!
This is a good bag sewing tutorial for an intermediate sewer or a confident beginner interested in skill building. Useful skills covered include adding an internal zippered pocket, using metal rings, and applying magnetic snap closures. She also talks about using cell foam to give the bottom structure, but I don’t believe that to be absolutely necessary and maybe more hassle then it’s worth for a hobo style bag. There are so many nice home dec weight fabrics that would be fun for this bag. Denim would also make a nice exterior and easy to embellish.
